Specific Subjects Education

What you'll do in college

This major bridges your passion for a specialized subject—such as music, art, physical education, or business—with the pedagogical skills needed to teach it. You will split your time between mastering your specific craft in studios, gyms, or labs, and taking core education courses in classroom management and educational psychology.

The degree culminates in specialized student teaching, where you learn to adapt your subject's curriculum to various age groups and skill levels.

What you'll do after college

Most graduates find employment as specialized teachers in elementary, middle, or high schools. Because subjects like art, music, and PE span multiple grades, you may teach an entire school's student body rather than a single homeroom.

Others pursue careers as athletic coaches, private music or art instructors, corporate trainers, or directors of community recreation and arts programs.
